Blogroll Me!

Camping Inside

2007-05-22 - 9:04 a.m.

Well, the stool adventure was a bust. But we got some of those camping foldy chairs, so I am currently sitting with my feet on the ground and my body in a sling-like device. Much better! Plus, we have a porch, so this will be nice for people who want to sit out there. We're still sleeping on the floor until tomorrow. But those self-inflating camping roll-ups? I love 'em.

We got our car back, and I got my bar exam study books. The car is freedom. The books are not. But I've talked to quite a few Minnesota Bar exam takers, and they all assure me that I'll still have some free time until up to the bar exam itself. Even people who didn't go to a Minnesota law school were telling me this. The Boy will be busy with his thesis, but it will be nice for one of us to have some time.

The one thing that weirds me out is the mirrors in this place. All the closets have mirrors for doors. If you remember our last place, it had no mirrors. We even got some complaints on that one from various visitors. But here, it seems no matter where I sit, there I am, duplicated. I keep thinking someone else is in the room. Any advice on how to minimize the strangeness?

There is No Blood Here

2007-05-20 - 10:46 p.m.

Well, the grades are in. And I kicked ass. My lowest grade was an A-. I only got one of those. How awesome am I? Well, not all that awesome. I could have tried as hard as I have these past few months, but eh. It is what it is.

I also picked up this really nifty book that some of you already know about. If you want a much better, and more coherent story of what law school is like than I've written for the last three years, check it out.

Finally, we are now in the Twin Cities. Life is strange. We have no furniture, currently. My butt's actually falling asleep from sitting on the carpet as I type this. But we do have wireless, which we all know is KEY to a successful marriage.

The Boy and I spent the evening walking around downtown Minneapolis. It's so hard to think "Minneapolis" where my brain wants to think "Pittsburgh". It was nine years of my life, and as much stress as I encountered in that place, it really felt like home. But one of my promises to myself is that the Boy and I will discover a new thing each week about this city. If you have any ideas or just want to encourage us, we're open to it!

Now I have to shut my laptop before my eyes bleed. The air is a little dry here...

Goal tomorrow: counter stools for sanity and ass blood flow. Wish us luck!

Warm Toilet Seats

2007-05-18 - 8:33 p.m.

I won't say when I experienced this, because I don't want to give away too much to the Interwebosphere, but what's with warm toilet seats?

A while back, I ran across my first TOTO washlet. The toilet was mystifying and strange, but I'll always try something new, especially when I have to use a toilet and there's no present alternative.

(I was a bit concerned by the NASA console to my left, all to operate a toilet. Not to worry, gentle readers, I figured out the basics. After all, there were pictures on the buttons.)

I sat down, as women do, and was immediately disturbed. I didn't get burned or anything, but this "shock" that people describe over cool ceramic is strange to me. See, I find ceramic to be cleanly and cold to connote that no one's used the seat I'm on in a good while. Nothing to be alarmed by, just the status of the throne I'm on.

Yet people really do want heated seats. It's apparently a novelty for celebrities now to have these TOTO things. And you know what I say to them?

It's a warm recepticle for you-know-what. Do you know how much that carries odors over time? It's not pretty, ladies and gentlemen. I don't think you can clean it enough, even if you did so every day. And if I never, ever use one of those things again, it will be too soon.

First Day Off

2007-05-11 - 7:00 p.m.

What did I do with my first day done with exams? I spent it at the law school. Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with me, either. But I had a really good time last night watching "Hot Fuzz."

I'll be honest, the Boy was the one who wanted to see this movie. I really had no interest. And when I got to the theater, I realized it's for a small set of the public to enjoy, since out of the seven people in the theater, only two people were laughing. One of them was the Boy. The other, well, it was me. A match made in heaven, I tell you.

In other news, my red sneakers have officially died. They have holes that cannot be duct-taped. Oh, and they're slowly breaking my feet into little bits. I want to stick with a red-sneaker theme, but I don't want to pay the $70 for some Pumas (which were the cheapest shoes I saw in the store). Any suggestions?

Done. Almost.

2007-05-10 - 11:42 p.m.

So you know, I am alive, I am alright, and I am 100% done with law school. Except receiving grades and a diploma. But all my efforts? Are done. Except one thing.

I finished all my papers.
I finished my exams.
I turned in my certificates and forms.
I showed up for the class picture

But I haven't cleaned out my locker.

Damn.
