Whatever you do Do it now
2007-06-01 - 2:03 p.m.
The Boy is in the interview for the job of his dreams. He's emailed me to tell me they love him BUT! They want his thesis done, like, today. Or at least by the end of July. Please, please, please, Interweblogosphere, work with me to make them realize that a month without the Boy is nothing compared to the two to three years they'd have to face without him. The Boy is WAY nicer than me. They should totally pick him!

A Stitch in Time
2007-05-31 - 2:17 p.m.
Dude, what is with me? You'd think I had just begun retirement rather than about to embark on a new career. This morning, I was running around, trying to get stuff done and packing up for the day. It wasn't until I was nearly on the highway (oh, and THANK YOU for the one-way streets in Minneapolis, where the streets could support two-way traffic, but who wants convenience?) until I realized what I had forgotten: My wallet. Um, brain? Where did you go? Could you come back? I'll need you in years to come...

Minneapolis Minneapolis a Heck of a Town
2007-05-30 - 9:15 p.m.
I like to be efficient. Sometimes to my own detriment. So today, when I picked up my mail (including a new credit card), I took it with me going to the bank and to the store. I had to deposit a check (yay!) and get some stuff for the apartment that never gets put together again. While walking home with milk in tote, I realized halfway past the bank that I had left all my personal mail at the bank. While I swore my way back along the street to get to the bank, I was hoping someone had been nice enough to give it to the teller or maybe one of the managers picked it up. I fought my way back, probably to the amusement of the outdoor lunch crowd. Finally, I got back to the bank, only to see that no one had touched my mail. It was there on the dias with all the deposit slips, waiting for me. Minnesota is a trusting sort of state. It also is a state whose inhabitants will bend over backward if you ask them to, but generally leave you alone if you don't speak up. I prefer to think of it as an optimist's viewpoint: if nothing is said, everything must be ok. I know I have some upper-midwest readers, and some folks who have visited this neck of the woods. Accurate?

Leaving Pittsburgh
2007-05-29 - 11:04 a.m.
Well, I'm safe and sound, back in Minneapolis. It's a very strange feeling. This past weekend consisted of flying back to Pittsburgh, being surrounded by my mother's family (and my dad), watching one last movie with our friends, graduating (oh boring of borings), eating in a favorite restaurant, sleeping in the house I've lived in for five years one last time, saying goodbye to the Boy for the week, and getting on a plane again. Then, my in-laws picked me up from the airport, took me to a dual christening party, and finally back to this apartment. And that's pretty much where I stayed all Sunday and Monday. I worked on the apartment some more, had a huge case of insomnia (sleeping from 6:30am to 8:30am, not really helpful to one's mental state), and basically missed my family and friends. It's been a long weekend, and I'm pretty nervous about this new city, even though I've lived here before. I've registered for BarBri now, and I know where I'll be studying. I'm supposed to hang out with some friends from last summer tonight. I also hope to have a post a week about something cool in Minneapolis this summer. If I slack, remind me, ok? And please feel free to visit!

Dust in My Nose
2007-05-24 - 7:56 a.m.
First, has anyone purchased a DVD rack that is not $8 million dollars but was not manufactured with, as the Boy put it last night, "popsicle sticks"? (Phiz, I freaking love the design and am totally attached to the DVD rack you gave us as a wedding present. for some reason? It doesn't have rods that are the same length that the wood is. Well, you saw it.) In other news, my eyes are nearly glued shut because the movers came yesterday and all our stuff descended upon us. This means a lot of dust, because, well, 100 year old houses are really dusty, no matter what you do. And my eyes, after unpacking from 8am to 1am, are a little gritty. Also, I am in mucho pain. I need Advil. Wait! I know where that is! Sweet! Bizarro world: I got an e-mail yesterday from a publishing house that wants to use a painting of mine for a textbook. And the painting matches the subject, even weirder. The painting is online, but it's very strange that this all happened. I'm currently trying to find what "the going rate" would be for such a thing. Again, I turn to you, gentle readers. So yeah, it's been a weird couple of days. And my feet hurt most of all. But the end is in sight. I'm also thinking of changing the scheme of the blog at some point. Any ideas?
